Thanks for that Rob, fascinating!

I cant wait for the movie to come out :) Emile Hirsch as Sonny Barger?

I also read that Barger held a gun to Keith Richards head and forced him to continue playing after the paramedics removed the body of Meredith Hunter...

Barger alleged that he held a gun to Keith but so far as I know no eyewitnesses have ever corroborated his story. I don't think the Stones even realised that Meredith Hunter had been killed in front of them and completed their set maybe thinking there had been just another fistfight.

I don't know if Barger had a gun, but Meredith hunter certainly did, which he pulled on the Angels who stabbed him. Jagger got punched in the face earlier by one of the so-called "fans" while getting of the helicopter. The Angels did their job for the most part. Sit on the edge of the stage drinking their free beer, and keep the bands safe. GD seems to have ditched their set and left because of the fans' unruliness than the Angels, from what I've heard and read.

I think thats incorrect DeadRed. In spite of my elevated mercury levels (21 mcg/L) I seem to remember a scene from Gimme Shelter where Jer and Phil are walking from the heli-pad and chatting with Michael Shrieve from Santana. I believe it was pretty clear at that time that the Angels were out of control and precipitating most, if not all of the violence. Phil was disgusted, and Jer seemed terrified...

Well that's what I get for growing up around my mom and her biker gang buddies.

It was a fan who threw a beer bottle and hit one of the members of Ace of Cups (6 months pregnant at the time) and fractured her skull. Nobody talks about that, but Marty Balin getting popped in the face gets all the press.

Agreed- with all the insanity on and around the stage documented in the movie, I'm inclined to believe that the Stones weren't aware of the stabbing until later. And even if they had been, what exactly were they going to do about it? The Angels pretty much had their way with the crowd and the bands all day (just ask Marty Balin).
